The Governmental Research Association, founded in 1914, is the national organization of individuals professionally engaged in governmental research. The purpose of the Association is to encourage individuals and organizations to engage in governmental research in the general interest. Governmental research involves the collection, analysis, and distribution of factual information on governmental activities to citizens and officials for the improvement of government and the reduction of its cost.
April 13, 2009. The 2009 GRA Awards Competition is officially underway. The competition is open only to standing members of the Governmental Research Association. Entrants will be judged for projects addressing state, local, and regional or multi-jurisdictional government in one of three categories: Most Distinguished Research, Outstanding Policy Achievement, and Most Effective Education. For the first time in 20+ years, we’ll hold the GRA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. next summer. Please mark your calendars now and plan to attend from July 26-29, 2009. With the new administration just settling in, this will be an exciting time to be in Washington. Look forward to updates from Beltway observers on trends and policies affecting states & localities plus reports from the many states represented in GRA. Winners of the 2008 GRA Awards Competition were announced at the Annual Conference of the Governmental Research Association in Boston, Massachusetts on Tuesday, August 5. The purpose of these awards is to recognize exceptional research on state and local governmental issues performed by staff members of governmental research agencies.
Categories of the awards are Most Distinguished Research, Outstanding Policy Achievement, and Most Effective Education. With multiple entries in each category, this year’s competition was very strong. These award winners represent some of the best governmental research and show how informed research can help to form better public policy.
